Women's Shelters Canada

Our Vision

Women and trans, Two-Spirit, and non-binary people, and their children live free from intimate partner and gender-based violence, with safety, dignity, and equity at the centre of their lives.

Our Mission

Women’s Shelters Canada is the national sectoral voice on intimate partner and gender-based violence in Canada. We connect organizations, co-create knowledge, and advocate for the policies, resources, and relationships that make safety and equity possible.

What is Abuse?

For many years we have been lead to believed that domestic abuse was purely physical abuse. This is simply not true. Abuse takes many forms and we are all entitled to live a life free of all it's forms.

Resources

We offer a range of specialized services tailored to meet your individual needs. Our approach is focused on understanding and responding to what you require, providing effective and practical solutions.

MIYKIWAN TOOLKIT

The MIYKIWAN toolkit was developed for Aboriginal families living off-reserve. It is a teaching tool designed to share knowledge and raise awareness about the impacts of family violence. The MIYKIWAN Toolkit builds on the strengths and resilience of Aboriginal families and communities, promotes healthier living, and celebrates a vision of violence free Aboriginal homes and communities. The MIYKIWAN toolkit builds awareness of the various types of violence that can be experienced in a family / domestic setting and provides preventive tips and relevant information to address and reduce reoccurrence.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE

The Native Women’s Association of Canada (NWAC) is committed to healing in our communities. No matter what your situation, you do have options and there is a way out, do not give up! We hope this toolkit will give you information and strategies to make healthy and positive changes in your life and the lives of your children. We also hope this toolkit will help you to recognize your inner strength and to see that, with the help and support of those people and organizations who care about and love you, you can stand strong and build a better future for yourself and your children.

ILLUMINATING THE WAY

The National inquiry into MMIWG was conducted over a period of 4 years. At its conclusion the final report was released on June 3, 2019 and it included 231 Calls for Justice. To ensure action and accountability on the 231 Calls for Justice, CAP embarked on an evaluation of various priorities. Within this bulletin, we are providing our communities with crucial information on systemic neglect and violence that the Canadian government continues to produce within policy and programs that impact ALL Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ peoples.
